How to Reset and Recharge Your Skin
Get Your Healthy Glow On Again! We've all experienced it. You wake up, and your skin's rocking it.
By afternoon, it's acting up in ways you can't explain – dryness, sudden breakouts, that frustrating inability to glow, no matter how many products you slap on.
Skin can be incredibly communicative, and these signals usually translate to one thing: it’s time for a refresh.
Similar to how a laptop needs a good reboot when it starts running slow, your skin benefits from an occasional break. Heavy products, pollution, an overly complicated routine – they all can take a toll. If the products and routines that used to work are no longer helping, or if you’ve overloaded your skin with too many active ingredients, follow this step-by-step guide to give your skin the much-needed reset it deserves and help it get back on track.
Signs Your Skin is Crying Out For Help
If you’re not sure if your skin is really acting up, here are the signs you need to look out for:
Ongoing redness or burning – This is a strong indication that your skin barrier’s compromised. Sudden outbreaks – Could be caused by blocked pores, or simply by piling too many products on top of each other. Uneven skin dryness and oiliness – If you’ve stripped your skin of essential lipids and moisture, it may overcompensate by producing more oil. - Step 1: Go back to basics If your skin feels stressed, the single best action is to dial it back. Put away any potent chemical exfoliants, retinol serums, and heavy-duty anti-ageing formulas for at least one or two weeks.
It is important to just “do” just Cleansers, Hydration and Protection.
(1) Opt for a hydrating, soothing and non-stripping cleanser Avoid any lathering formulations, which will leave your skin feeling dry, tight, or "squeaky clean.”
Opt for something cream-based, a gel-textured or even a milky formula. A gel facial wash formulation is best if your skin is a little combo skin because it will still do a job of removing the build-up of oils from T area of the face without causing excessive dryness on cheek areas.
(2) Flood your skin with moisture This is another one where less is more, or rather, it's more hydration and less intense treatment.
Use light weight moisturiser formulations packed with water-binding ingredients.
Hyaluronic Acid – is a hero ingredient, Hyaluronic acid (which will attract 1000 its weight in water), Cica – also known as centella asiatica, and is superb at calming and protecting, and Aloe Vera – an excellent for calming inflamed skin. (3) Seal it and protect it in the day, a broad-spectrum sunscreen 30 SPF or more is essential for daily protection against UV rays (Sunlight causes damage to our skin that slows down our body's natural repair process. After night, use a simple barrier-reinforcing moisturiser containing Ceramides.
Your skin is composed of skin cells (similar to bricks). Ceramides are like the grout that fills in the spaces between the bricks and acts to strengthen your skin barrier to repair any damage to your skin cells!
Step 2: Go on a mini “Skin Fast” for 3 days For those times when you are breaking out excessively due to a new product or you just feel like your skin needs the complete opposite of anything strong, try a mini skin fast.
Day 1 & 2 : Just use the basic cleansing routine day & night; morning: wash your face with luke warm water only and then apply a plain moisturiser/Sunscreen for Day. Night: wash your face using only cleanser and plain moisturiser and no treatment products . 2. Day 3 : See how your skin responds… Does it look clearer?
Is the dry patch less visible and the skin smoother?
If yes, introduce targeted treatment products slowly one at time only for next couple days. Step 3: Nourish and support your skin from within Your face is only half of the picture, so give your body tools to help regenerate healthy cells. Use water- Drink a decent amount of water throughout the day- It is vital for our skin’s natural functions.
“It cleanses and helps flush our bodies of toxins that contribute to skin issues and allows the skin to look more hydrated and radiant,”. Sleep Sleep is essential for healthy skin; Your skin produces collagen and increases blood flow while you sleep. Make sure you’re getting enough high-quality sleep!
The Effects of Diet On Your Skin Sugar - consuming a lot of sugar can trigger inflammation and spike blood sugar levels.
This can have an effect on your insulin levels, and your body’s production of oils and sebum – causing breakouts in your skin. Eat the skin-healthy rainbow;berries, citrus fruit,Leafy Greens, avocado . Repair Your Routine If you use an active ingredient in your regime but find your skin hasn't been itself for some time, it might be time to gradually re-introduce the active into your regime! If using an exfoliant such as AHA and BHA or a brightening agent, only use them once or twice a week and then re-evaluate after a few days before going into more frequent use.
Your patience and Consistency will Pay You Back Take a breath, throw out everything on your vanity, and relax.
Your skin knows what it’s doing – you just have to let it do its thing.
